General dentistry is the everyday care that stops small problems from becoming large ones: examinations, professional cleaning, fillings, gum care and practical guidance on day-to-day oral hygiene.

What’s included

Routine examination with digital X-rays where needed, scaling and polishing, tooth-coloured composite fillings, gum health assessment, and early detection of decay, gum disease or bite problems.

How often should you visit?

A check-up and professional cleaning every six months suits most patients — more frequently if you have ongoing gum concerns, diabetes, or a history of rapid decay.

You may need this if

  • It has been more than six months since your last check-up
  • Sensitivity to sweet, hot or cold food
  • Visible staining, tartar build-up or bad breath
  • A chipped tooth or a filling that has come out

Not sure whether this applies to you? Call and describe the problem — we will tell you honestly.

What treatment involves

1

Examination

Every tooth, the gums, the bite and the soft tissues of the mouth are checked, including a routine screening for anything abnormal.

2

Imaging if needed

Digital X-rays only where they will change the diagnosis — decay between teeth and bone levels cannot be seen by eye.

3

Cleaning

Scaling removes hardened tartar above and just below the gum line, followed by polishing.

4

Plan and prevention

Anything that needs treatment is explained with costs, plus practical advice specific to where you are actually missing with the brush.

Why it is worth doing

Problems caught early Small cavities and early gum disease are far simpler and cheaper to treat.
Prevents bigger treatment Regular cleaning and check-ups avoid root canals and extractions later.
Digital X-rays on site Low-dose imaging when needed, with results reviewed with you immediately.
Care for the whole family Children, adults and older patients treated in the same practice.

Aftercare

  • Mild sensitivity for a day or two after scaling is normal
  • Brush twice daily along the gum line and clean between the teeth daily
  • Book the next check-up before you leave
Questions

General & Preventive Dentistry — FAQs

Every six months suits most patients. More frequent visits are advised if you have gum disease, diabetes, or a history of rapid decay.

No. Scaling removes hardened deposits that are already damaging the gum and bone. Teeth can feel slightly different afterwards simply because the built-up tartar has gone.
