Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery covers the surgical diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck. It sits at the intersection of dentistry and surgery, and requires training well beyond a general dental qualification.

What it covers

Impacted teeth, corrective jaw surgery for bite and facial deformity, cysts and tumours of the jaws, facial trauma and fractures, orofacial infections, temporomandibular joint disorders, pre-implant bone grafting, and biopsy of suspicious oral lesions.

Surgical training that matters

Dr. Fatima served as Senior Resident in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at both the KGMU and SGPGIMS trauma centres, managing complex facial injuries and infections. That experience means complex cases are treated here rather than referred onward mid-treatment.

Surgical consultation

A focused examination with imaging to establish exactly what the problem is before any treatment is proposed.

Planning

The procedure, anaesthesia, risks and costs are explained in full. Cases needing hospital admission are identified at this stage, not later.

Surgery

Performed under sterile surgical protocol, most often under local anaesthesia as day-care treatment.

Review

Follow-up appointments to check healing and remove sutures.
